The Latvian Parliament (Saeima) has adopted a law which ratifies Optional Protocol of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

On 3 June 2010 the Saeima adopted a law (On Optional Protocol of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities) in accordance with which Latvia adopts and ratifies the Optional Protocol of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. For the Protocol to enter into force, it still has to be proclaimed by the President. After the proclamation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia will deposit it to UN and the Protocol will enter into force on the thirtieth day after its deposition in the UN.

RC “ZELDA” is very pleased with the decision of the Latvian legislator to ratify the Optional Protocol which will entitle every inhabitant of Latvia with the right to turn to the UN with complaints in case the State will not be fulfilling its duties undertaken by the adoption of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
